Junkspace Navigation is an audiovisual project exploring new urban ecologies across the cities of Rome, Brussels, Berlin, and London.
The contemporary city is crossed by continuous flows that leave traces, generating residual matter that transforms urban space into a junk ecosystem.
The performance Junkspace Navigation virtually depicts the city through its waste and the exchanges of matter and energy generated within it, reflecting on the loss of value of the urban object and turning waste into a starting point for a new ecology.
Through devices programmed according to their specific investigative methodologies, the performers navigate the Junkspace, generating visual material from sound, and overlapping sounds and images drawn from a database that acts as an open score. The database recreates the urban environment (Berlin, London, Rome, Brussels) by mapping collected video footage onto a spherical structure.
The result is a live audiovisual performance (15–25 min) offering the audience an immersive and rhizomatic experience in which the Junkspace takes shape concurrently with its navigation.
