O

[Tekst dostępny tylko w języku angielskim] The project started in Berlin on February of the year 2010. Pammela and Rafael wanted to take their performance to a completely new level, to make something original and authentic. They worked hard, and upon their return to their hometown, Mexico City, they had composed already three pieces and the performance part was starting to take shape. The music of the project is microtonal, so they decided to call the project "Microtonal Audiovisual".

Pammela Rojas usually produces her own photographic and video material from a wide spectrum of sources, ranging from a piece of fabric, to extreme closeups, panoramic photography and even sea creatures. She focuses on creating the best possible capture, to avoid excessive post treatment, hence effects. Pammela prefers to preserve the natural and organic elements of the footage and focuses her creativity in the edition and composition.

Rafael Marfil makes use of his own microtonal tuning, RM18, the one divides the octave in 18 equal parts and has its lowest frequency at 9 Hz. On the first piece of this project he used an emulation and samples of well known drum machines. At present time he avoids using non original material the kind of samples and drum machines. He takes care of every single aspect of the sound design, meaning that every sound is his own creation, starting from simple mathematical functions.

Due to the compositional nature of these works, Pammela Rojas & Rafael Marfil do not interpret these pieces in their live performances, as they prefer an improvisational approach.
